Getting Started Checklist for Clubs

Acquiring a first timing system feels like a big step for a club. This guide breaks it into manageable phases so the investment lands right and the first event runs smoothly.
Step 1: Map your needs
For which discipline and what size of events? How often will the gear be used? How many volunteers can operate it? Note the arena dimensions and whether indoor or outdoor venues are used. These answers steer the whole purchase.
Step 2: Set a realistic budget
Don't look only at the device price. Budget for training, spare batteries, a transport case and a possible scoreboard. A quality FDS base package serves for years, so calculate the cost per year of use ā not just the one-off price.
Step 3: Choose the right configuration
For most clubs, a start and finish photocell, a receiver and a laptop with results software is enough to begin. A scoreboard can be added later. Ask Eqilo for a base package tailored to your discipline.
Step 4: Train your users
The most important investment is know-how. Train at least two people so the timing doesn't collapse when one person is away. Go through setup, calibration, the software connection and troubleshooting. Eqilo offers training on the club's own field.
Step 5: Practise before the first event
Set up the system at a practice session and run the course. Write down the club's own settings (cell heights, software port) and keep the note in the case. This way the first official event is not the first time.
Step 6: The first event
Arrive in good time, set up and test before the audience. Keep spare gear and one paper backup list nearby. Start with a small event before the big ones. Every event builds confidence.
